Dial-up modem configuration: Windows 2000/XP
This guide provides customers using Windows 2000 or Windows XP the information needed to setup a computer to connect to Optus Dial-up Internet.
While Windows 2000 & Windows XP are different, the Windows 2000 example shown here will work successfully for Windows XP.

- Click on the Start button located in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Move the mouse pointer to Settings, another menu will open.
- Click on Network and Dial-up Connections.

- Double click Make New Connection.

- Click the Next button.
- Step 4 of 19
- Choose Dial-up to the Internet, click the Next button.

- Select the third option, I want to set up a connection manually.
- Click the Next button.

- Select I connect through a phone line and a modem.
- Click the Next button.

- Enter 0198 331 111 in the Telephone number box.
- Remove the tick from beside Use area code and dialling rules.
- Click the Advanced button.

- In the window that is now open, click on the Connection tab located at the top of the window.
- Select PPP (Point to Point Protocol).
- Select None in the bottom half of the window.
- Click on the Addresses tab located at the top of the window.

- For your systems IP address, select Internet service provider automatically provides one.
- Select My ISP automatically provides a Domain Name Server (DNS) address.
- Click the OK button.

- You will now be back in this window.
- Click the Next button.

- Enter your Optus Dial-up Internet username in the box titled User name. Make sure that you enter your username in lower case letters.
- Enter your Optus password in the box titled Password. Make sure that you enter your password in lower case letters.
- Click the Next button.

- Enter Optus Internet into the Connection name box.
- Click the Next button.

- If you want to set up Outlook Express as your email program, select Yes then click the Next button.
- If you do not want to set up Outlook Express as your email program, select No, then click the Next button, then go to Step 19.

- Select Create a new Internet mail account.
- Click the Next button.

- Enter your real name in the Display name box. You can use capital letters and spaces in this box.
- Click the Next button.

- In the Email address box, type in username@optusnet.com.au, where username is your Optus Dial-up Internet username. Enter this address in lower case letters.
- Click the Next button.

- Select POP3 for the type of Incoming mail server.
- In the box titled Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP or HTTP) server, enter mail.optusnet.com.au. Enter this server name in lower case letters.
- In the box titled Outgoing mail (SMTP) server, enter mail.optuszoo.com.au. Enter this server name in lower case letters.
- Click the Next button.

- Enter your Optus Dial-up Internet username in the Account name box. Enter the username in lower case letters.
- Enter your Optus password in the Password box. Enter the password in lower case letters.
- Do not place a tick in the box titled Log on using Secure Password Authentication.
- Click the Next button.

- Configuration of your connection is now complete.
- If you want to connect to the Internet immediately, place a tick next to Connect to the Internet immediately.
Click the Finish button.
