Upgrade information

Optus Internet Security Suite is upgraded each year with new features and the 2009 version is now available to all Broadband customers.

Existing and new customers can upgrade to Security Suite 2009 by downloading the latest installer.

Before downloading please take the time to ensure your computer meets the system requirements for Security Suite 2009 and familiarise yourself with the new and improved features.

Minimum and recommended System Requirements

Security suite 2009 can be installed on Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems. Please note that Security Suite 2009 is presently not compatible with Linux and Macintosh operating systems.

Minimum: Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Processor: Intel Pentium III 600MHz or higher
Memory: 256MB RAM
Disk space: 600MB free HD space
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Browser: Internet Explorer 5.0 or newer.

Recommended: Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Processor: Intel Pentium III 1GHz or higher
Memory: 512MB or more
Disk space: 800MB free HD space
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4 or Microsoft Windows XP SP2
Browser: Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer is required.

Minimum: Vista

Processor: Capable of running Microsoft Vista 32bit
Memory: 512MB
Disk space: 600MB free HD space
Browser: Internet Explorer 7.0 or newer.

Latest features
Vista 64-bit support for all features

All features now support running on Vista 64-bit systems.

DeepGuard 2.0
DeepGuard can now do a query over the network as part of the proactive protection, which helps to reduce the amount of user prompting. This also brings improvements in the speed F-Secure can respond to new outbreaks of suspicious items, and improved accuracy.
 

Improved Parental Control Timelock
Greatly enhanced Parental Control allowing the parent to control how much time the children can spend on the Internet.
 

Improved interoperability with Parental Control and Web Traffic Scanning

The technology behind Parental Control and Web Traffic Scanning has been improved to work better with 3rd party applications.

Performance security control
For systems having less than the minimum recommended amount of memory, the product now offers the possibility to install a subset of the features.

New Online help
The Online help has been rewritten to focus more on troubleshooting.

Easier Installation
User can now select Automatic Installation type. Less user interaction is needed during automatic installation. In this mode most dialogs will be skipped and the default settings taken into use.

Downloading conflicting product definitions during installation

During installation, the product will automatically try to connect to the server and download new definitions of conflicting products.

Core technology improvements for malware detection and removal

The product provides fast and carefree maintainability of Virus & Spyware protection scanning architecture. This allows quick and smooth response to constantly evolving threat landscape.

Sidebar Gadget showing the protection status
A gadget is added automatically into the Windows Sidebar and Google Desktop (if installed). However, the Google Desktop gadget is not available on Vista x64, or if the installation is performed silently.

The gadget shows the status of the product and opens the user interface when double-clicked.

It is now possible for service providers to advise users of upcoming news via an easy to use RSS-style news feature.
