Google to search Australian businesses
8:29 AM June 15

Search giant Google is expected to soon start selling its enterprise search appliance products in Australia, at least four years after early versions went on sale internationally.

"Please join Google and partners for this media-only briefing as we launch business solutions for enterprise search," the company said in an e-mail inviting press to a media briefing on 22 June.

Internationally, the company has several products targeted at the enterprise market, ranging from the small business-targeted Google Mini to the high-end Google Search Appliance.

These products bring Google's famously simple search ethos into the vast array of information found on enterprise networks.

But they have not historically been available in Australia. The earliest press statement relating to the products on Google's Web site is dated June 17, 2002.

Google's Web site says its Search Appliance solution can "search up to 15 million documents ... Search across information from Cognos, Oracle, SAS, Salesforce.com -- and many more."

Although the company's enterprise focus has historically been in the search appliance area, where it has played since the opening years of this decade, it also markets enterprise-level versions of its Google Earth, Maps, Desktop and Toolbar applications.

The Google Mini and Search Appliance solutions sell for US$1,995 and US$30,000 respectively.
